Jobber vs Housecall Pro for Canadian home-service businesses

Both publish USD plan prices, not CAD. Jobber is Edmonton-based. Interac and Canadian payroll only where each vendor actually documents them.

Last updated 6 September 2026. About 15 minutes. Research from public vendor docs and CRA pages — not a hands-on lab test.

Canadian home-service shops get sold the same two logos: Jobber (Edmonton) and Housecall Pro (a US field-service suite that will still take a Canadian card). They both schedule trucks, send quotes, and invoice. They do not both publish CAD prices, Interac debit, or CRA payroll. Treating a US$59 “from” line as a Canadian till is how you buy the wrong stack.

This is a Canada-only head-to-head of Jobber and Housecall Pro — scheduling, quotes, invoices, GST/HST, and public list prices. Jobber and Housecall Pro prices re-checked on public vendor pages, 6 September 2026. Buttons are official marketing URLs, not affiliate trackers. Jobber is a later referral/affiliate candidate; there is no tracking ID on this page.

Wider trades stack (Jobber plus a ledger): software for Canadian trades. Scheduling-only field (Jobber vs Square Appointments vs Jane vs Calendly): scheduling software for Canadian small businesses. Shop-based invoices without a dispatch board: invoicing software for Canadian freelancers. What has to be on the PDF in Ontario: how to invoice GST/HST in Ontario.

Who this comparison is for

  • A one- to ten-truck HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lawn, or cleaning shop that lives on quotes, deposits, and a calendar — not a café till.
  • Someone comparing “Jobber is Canadian” against a Housecall Pro demo without being shown USD vs CAD, Interac, or payroll reality.
  • A bookkeeper who needs to know which app owns the day and which ledger still owns the GST/HST return.

Jobber — Edmonton, USD list, Canadian cards

Jobber is the Canadian-founded operations app this site already treats as the trades lead. The public pricing page on 6 September 2026 is still USD. One-user display: Core US$49/month with no commitment, US$39/month on a 1-year monthly term, or US$29/month billed annually. Connect US$139 / US$119 / US$99. Grow US$199 / US$169 / US$149. Plus US$499 / US$439 / US$399. Higher user counts (5 / 10 / 15) reprint higher USD bands on the same page. Source: https://www.getjobber.com/pricing/.

All subscription prices on getjobber.com/pricing are USD. The page says prices exclude sales tax where applicable. Confirm GST/HST on a Canadian bill at checkout — this site does not invent a CAD SKU. The 14-day trial is full Grow, no credit card required. Annual prepaid is billed up front and the FAQ says that payment is non-refundable if you cancel mid-term.

What the same page attaches to the job: book and schedule, quotes, invoices and online cards, two-way SMS in Canada, QBO and Xero sync, 2.9% + 30¢ credit-card processing on every listed plan (pricing compare table), 2.7% + 30¢ Tap to Pay (same compare table; help article repeats that card-present rate). Instant payouts +1%. Bank payments (ACH) 1% — pricing table marks ACH as available in the US

Housecall Pro — USD plans, US-shaped extras

Housecall Pro’s public pricing page (6 September 2026) is a questionnaire that still prints a plan grid. housecallpro.com/pricing prints USD and says prices are exclusive of sales tax. The same page says sales tax may apply depending on your state of residence. That is not a published CAD list. Confirm GST/HST on a Canadian subscription at checkout. Basic US$59/month billed annually (US$79/month on monthly billing) (1 user included). Essentials US$149/month billed annually (US$189/month monthly) (5 users included; additional users US$100/month each). MAX US$299/month billed annually (US$329/month monthly) (8 users included; additional users US$75/month each). 14-day free trial on MAX; no credit card required on the public page Source: https://www.housecallpro.com/pricing/.

Basic already lists online booking, invoices and payments, scheduling and dispatch, quotes, and reviews. Essentials adds routes, flat-rate pricing, GPS, commissions, and QuickBooks Online sync. MAX adds the sales proposal tool, recurring service plans, route optimization, open API, and dedicated onboarding. That is the public feature story — not a claim that every add-on works in Canada.

Scheduling and the day

Both products are job calendars, not Calendly. Jobber’s public table emphasizes online booking, routing, GPS, and Two-way text messaging listed for the United States, Canada, and the UK. Housecall Pro puts scheduling on Basic, multi-stop routes on Essentials, and one-click route optimization on MAX. If you only need a salon chair or a clinic slot, you are in the wrong fight — use the scheduling guide.

I have not sat in either dispatch board for NorthOffice. Fit is inferred from what the vendors print: Jobber as the Canadian-market default for one-truck-to-small-crew service; Housecall Pro as the US-weighted suite with a louder add-on catalogue (financing, payroll, coaching) that you must check country by country.

Quotes, deposits, and GST/HST

Both will let you send a quote and convert it to a job and an invoice. Jobber documents quote deposits and progress invoicing on the pricing/feature table. Housecall Pro documents quotes on Basic and a visual proposal tool on MAX. The software will apply whatever tax rate you typed. It will not decide whether HST is due on a $2,000 deposit — that is CRA timing, not a toggle. Official starting point: Charge and collect the GST/HST.

Put 13% Ontario HST (or the correct place-of-supply rate) and your GST/HST number on the template. Under $100 / $100–$499.99 / $500+ CRA information rules still apply. Neither app refuses a non-compliant PDF. Details: how to invoice GST/HST in Ontario. If you do not need dispatch at all, stay in invoicing software.

Getting paid in Canada

Jobber Payments and Housecall Pro Payments both take cards. Jobber prints 2.9% + 30¢ credit-card processing on every listed plan (pricing compare table) and 2.7% + 30¢ Tap to Pay (same compare table; help article repeats that card-present rate) on the public compare. Housecall Pro prints “from 2.59%” on marketing and a method-by-method table in help (2.59% / 2.99% / 3.49%). Those are published vendor figures, not a NorthOffice lab rate, and not Interac.

ACH / bank debit is a US line on both vendors’ public pages. Jobber help: Canadian accounts are card-only. Housecall Pro help: ACH is not available in Canada. Instant payouts exist (Jobber +1%; Housecall Pro Instapay +1%, with a published Canadian per-transaction cap). e-Transfer still lives at the bank for a lot of Ontario homeowners; Jobber can record it after the fact.

Tap Interac at the door is still a Canadian reader problem. Square and Helcim publish Interac cents; these two field apps do not. Start with accepting cards in Canada if the van needs debit tap.

When Jobber is the practical pick

  1. You want the Edmonton product Canadian trades already shortlist, with two-way SMS and Jobber Payments documented for Canada.
  2. You will configure GST/HST yourself and sync to QBO or Xero (Pricing page lists QuickBooks Online and Xero sync).
  3. You can live without Interac tap inside the Jobber app.
  4. One to a few users: start at Core or Connect on the USD annual display, then read the live checkout tax line.

When Housecall Pro is the practical pick

  1. A demo already matches how you sell (price book, proposals, recurring plans) and you have confirmed the Canadian payment methods you actually need.
  2. You want the published card-present 2.59% help-table rate more than Jobber’s printed 2.7% + 30¢ Tap to Pay — and you accept that help article is not a Canadian Interac card.
  3. You will still run Canadian payroll and the GST/HST return somewhere else.
  4. You are not buying it because the marketing page mentioned ACH, consumer financing, or HCP Payroll without a Canada check.

When to leave this two-product fight

Need the books, not the trucks: accounting software for Canada. Need only invoices: invoicing software. Need a till: POS systems in Canada. Need the wider Jobber-plus-ledger picture: software for Canadian trades.

A practical pick

  1. Ontario one-truck or small crew, CAD work, HST on quotes: Jobber, then QBO/Xero/FreshBooks for the return.
  2. Already mid-demo on Housecall Pro and the Canadian payment list matches how you get paid: stay, and configure a named HST rate yourself.
  3. Need Interac tap in the driveway: add a Canadian reader; do not wait for either FSM app to invent an Interac table.
  4. Need CPP/EI/T4: a Canadian payroll product, not HCP Payroll.
