Best email marketing software for Canadian small businesses
Constant Contact publishes CAD. Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Flodesk, and MailerLite are USD (or a CAD toggle you must confirm). Email is not a till.
Last updated 6 September 2026. About 14 minutes. Research from public vendor docs and CRA pages — not a hands-on lab test.
A Canadian email tool has two jobs US roundups skip: show you CAD or an honest USD label, and keep GST/HST on the SaaS bill separate from GST/HST on the invoices you send. It is not a till. It is not Interac. It is not your ledger.
This comparison is five options Canadians actually open: Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Constant Contact, Flodesk, and MailerLite. Email-marketing prices checked against public vendor pages, 6 September 2026. Buttons are official marketing URLs, not affiliate trackers.
I have not sent a Smithville list through each stack for NorthOffice. Fit is inferred from public pricing and tax pages — including Interac and Canadian data centres the vendor does not name.
Who each tool is actually for
- Mailchimp — the default newsletter brand. USD list (CAD toggle on the pricing page). GST/HST documented in Mailchimp help. Not your invoice mailer.
- Klaviyo — Shopify-weighted email and SMS. USD calculator. GST/HST on Canadian invoices from 20 June 2024. Related: website builders if the storefront is Shopify.
- Constant Contact — the one public CAD list in this set. US company; Canadian marketing pages. Confirm the live widget (Cloudflare blocked a direct retrieve on the check date).
- Flodesk — design-first, subscriber-tiered USD. Checkout in Canada goes through Stripe — not Interac.
- MailerLite — Comfort/Power after the 2026 rename. USD or EUR. Starting prices are low; that is not a Canadian DC.
Snapshot (public pages, 6 September 2026)
CAD only where the vendor prints CAD. Email software is not Interac debit.
Mailchimp
- Published starting price
- Standard: US$20/month at the 0–500 contact tier; that tier lists up to 6,000 emails/month (12× contacts)
- Currency honesty
- mailchimp.com/pricing has a currency toggle that includes CAD. Figures below are the USD display retrieved 6 September 2026. Confirm the CAD line at checkout — this page does not invent a conversion.
- GST/HST on the SaaS bill
- Mailchimp help (About Canada Taxes): advertised prices exclude tax. Mailchimp collects GST plus provincial HST/PST/QST from a Canadian location. GST-registered businesses can add a GST ID to self-assess federal GST; Ontario HST follows that rule. BC and Saskatchewan PST is charged even if federal GST is self-assessed.
- Interac / customer till
- Mailchimp FAQ: major credit cards, PayPal, and (in select countries) direct debit. No Interac debit or Interac e-Transfer line on that page.
- Canadian data centre on the pages used
- Not named on the pricing or Canada-tax help pages used here
Klaviyo
- Published starting price
- Free plan: up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends/month, $5 of mobile messages/month. Paid email (and SMS) is a list-and-usage calculator on the same page. Confirm the email line at your profile count. This page does not invent a 500-profile price.
- Currency honesty
- USD on klaviyo.com/pricing (page printed “Total: $45 USD” as a sample platform calculator display — not a published SKU for every list size)
- GST/HST on the SaaS bill
- Klaviyo help “Understanding tax with Klaviyo” (updated 7 July 2025): GST and HST collection for Canada from 20 June 2024. Unregistered buyers see GST/HST as an extra line. GST/HST-registered buyers who add a CRA program account (Canada GST/HST tax type) see a reverse-charge exempt line; remitting that amount is their CRA job.
- Interac / customer till
- No Interac debit table on the public pricing page. SMS and email are not a reader.
- Canadian data centre on the pages used
- Not named on the pricing or tax help pages used here

- Constant Contact, Inc. Canadian marketing pages and a CAD price tool. Not a Canadian-corporation or Canadian-data-centre claim.

- Comfort starts at US$12/month on the public pricing FAQ. Official MailerLite comparison pages list Comfort at US$19/month at 1,000 subscribers on monthly billing

Shopify-weighted email/SMS stack. Not an invoicing ledger and not an Interac till. If the storefront is the product catalogue, start with website builders for Canadian small businesses and come back here for the list. Leads that are not store orders still belong in a CRM.

Constant Contact — published CAD on Canadian pages

Premium from CA$109/month on the same FAQ Same CA homepage: 10% off when you prepay 6 months, 15% off when you prepay 12 months. Confirm current prepaid math on the pricing page. Constant Contact, Inc. Canadian marketing pages and a CAD price tool. Not a Canadian-corporation or Canadian-data-centre claim. No Interac debit or e-Transfer table on the public CA marketing pages used for this research. CAD on the marketing page is the reason it sits in this table. It is not a claim that Constant Contact is a Canadian company or that subscriber data stays in Canada.
